Designed by Phillip Hall-Patch, Brighton, UK.
The structure is conceived as a viewing platform for looking out to sea and along the coast. Visitors will walk through two high walls and up a short flight of steps that lead to a viewing platform. The unusual feature of this structure is the use of salt blocks to clad the structure. This part of the Lincolnshire coast has a long history of salt production and is known to have been a centre of salt production during Roman times. The structure will be clad in pristine white salt blocks. Theses are formed under high pressure to create blocks with a similar density to an engineering brick. A concrete core would support and hold the blocks, and create a safe structure, whilst performing a similar function once the salt has disappeared.
‘Salt Licks’ is proposed to be located at the southern end of the car parking terrace on Huttoft seafront.
