Bathing Beauties®
Art Meets Architecture:
A Linear Gallery of Seaside Beach Huts on the Lincolnshire coast
Bathing Beauties® began back in 2006 with an international art and architecture competition to ‘Re-imagine the Beach Hut for the 21st Century’. This prompted one of the most exciting responses to any architectural competition this century, with over 240 scale models submitted from 15 different countries.
The project captured worldwide attention and resulted in three, ongoing programmes:
- Huts on Parade: a series of bold huts on the superb, but partly forgotten, 16km stretch of Lincolnshire coast
- Hub Touring Model Exhibition: a selection of up to 100 inspirational scale models by artists / architects worldwide,on tour in galleries around the UK
- Festival of Bathing Beauties®: now the longest linear coastal art festival in Europe – takes place each September
Structures on the Edge: The next generation of Bathing Beauties
Continuing the massive success of Bathing Beauties®, Structures on the Edge is a new concept to integrate permanent small structures designed by artists and architects for the enjoyment and understanding of the coastal environment, on the extreme edges of the Lincolnshire coast.
A design competition held in summer 2010 again grabbed the attention of the architectural community, with exciting submissions received for a range of sites between Mablethorpe and Chapel St Leonards. The winners were selected in November 2010.
